First Year For New Styling
by McDougal on 3/18/2021 5:19:03 PM
My Mom and Dad's car. Low miles as Mom didn't drive much after Dad passed. The car is a joy to drive on the highway and gets amazing gas mileage (26-30 Hwy. 22-25 City) thanks to the early 4.6L OHC V-8 (281 cu.in.). These V-8s were very technically advanced at the time and variants of this engine are still produced. There are some very hot versions of this V-8 in Mustangs and the like. The aero body lines were new that year I think, and you can see faults in the fit and finish typical of Ford. Lots of fiberglass panels to get the weight down but still a 5200 lb. vehicle. The cornering is surprisingly good for a boat this size. Had to learn to be careful parking it as I've never had anything this big before. Power windows have all failed over time and were pricey to fix. Some cheapness to the interior plastic typical of a lower trim level. Dad was frugal. He should have bought that Lincoln Continental he always wanted! KBB prices are ridiculously low on these so if you can find a Grandma car it will do you right.
